Besides , all of them are subdivided as well into smaller groups , depending upon the way of playing . For example , you can find three groups in the stringed instruments , such as those which are ( , viola , cello and double - bass , they are all alike ) , those which are ( such as and guitar ) and , finally those which are ( the piano ) .
On the other hand , the wind instruments are separeted in a first step by the material they are made from : brass and . These ones , once again are subdivided depending on the way the player makes the air vibrate in the tube . The flute belongs to the edge - note group , the and to the double - reed group and the clarinet and to the single - reed group . The brass instruments produce the sound by buzzing the player's lips inside a cup - shaped .
