Wrong interpretation
A remote island was inhabited by highly intelligent savages. They had some primitive art, carved rough statues and made excellent drawings of animals on the walls of caves, but they had no alphabet and had never dreamed of such a thing. A box was washed a shore containing a number of books, dry and in good conditions. The nativeswere delighted with the windfall and they supposed the printed pages to be elaborate examples of pattern designs
