When passing a knife to another person, offer her/him the handle. Hold blade with the blunt side upwards.
Don't cut towards yourself.
Don't play with knives.
Make sure that knives are sharp so that they will cut efficiently.
Water
Place cold water in a sink before adding hot water.
Let cold water run through the tap after using hot.
Fat
Don't throw water on a fat fire - smother it with a board or blanket.
Put a saucepan with fat well in on the stove.
Don't allow fat to become too hot.
Don't add anything wet to hot fat.
