Once we had our bare minimum list, we cross referenced our needed ingredients with what we had in the pantry. Among other unnecessary things which we would not need, the pantry supplied peanut butter in a jar, grape jelly, and a paper plate. We substituted a spoon for the utensil since there was no knife. There was only 1 slice of wheat bread, but we determined that it was enough to make a half PB&J, which would still accomplish our goal.
After gathering our supplies, one of our members began assembling the sandwich. He started with the slice of bread on the plate, and began to spread peanut butter over half the slice. The spoon was a bit awkward to use, but scooped a proper amount effectively. After completing that, we saw a potential problem in using the peanut butter covered utensil to spread the jelly, since it would mix into the jar. Even though mixing the peanut.butter into the jar would not interfere with the goals for this project, it could still be a source for a potential problem in a future project. We decided to check the panty again for a napkin and were able to find one to clean the spoon with. Our sandwich prepper promptly finished assembling the sandwich and folded it in half along the division between the two spreads, successfully making the PB&J.
We presented the PB&J to the sandwich critic and he gave it a completely average score, saying it met and did not exceed any expectations for a classic PB&J. Looking back, there are limits to what we could have done differently given the constraints of the pantry, although we reflected that using strawberry jam instead of grape jelly might significantly increase the quality of the sandwich. Additionally, we could have also cut off the crust to make a tastier experience, although then we would have to deal with the problem of food waste.
In looking at all the goals given to us, it seemed like the order given was naturally the order we would accomplish the tasks.
