CALL FOR A UNIFIED FRONTIER FORCE

A new border force should be set up to clamp down on illegal immigration , one of the UK's senior police officers has said .

Sir Chris Fox , outgoing president of the Association of Chief Police Officers said different agencies had different objectives .

He called for a new force made up of police , special branch , immigration and custom officers .
The government says security agencies work best as " distinct entities " .

Mr Fox said the frontier force would have " total ____________________ for all points of entry .
" I think that will make us a far more coordinated organisation against ____________________ and illegal entry " . At the moment the agencies involved had all ____________________ objectives ( doelen ) , he said . " The police might be involved in criminality and may want people to come in so we can follow them to wherever they are going with whatever they've got , to catch a network of criminals .

" The priority for customs might be " to ____________________ the products that they are carrying , " he added . " So we need all those objectives being brought together with one organisation that makes decisions about when is the right time to act . "

But Immigration Minister T . McNulty said the government would not consider Sir Chris' ____________________ . Mr McNulty said : " UK borders ____________________ by the UK Immigration Service and Customs in close ____________________ with the police . We believe that ____________________ is more effectively carried out when the agencies work closely together while remaining distinct from each other .

The Conservative Party is also in favour of a frontier force . Their immigration spokesman Damian Green told BBC News : " Being an island , our borders ought to be a good line of defence against ____________________ , against drug trafficking , against a lot of the worst international crime and they are just not " .

The Home Office has denied it could have done more to ____________________ the Morecambe Bay , in which 21 ____________________ from China were drowned when caught in dangerously high tides .
