To talk about a repeated action in the past which doesn´t happen now. Note that the action must be repeated and this form is normally used for narrative.
Sometimes we would go out and play (would + verb)
To talk about something in the past that doesn't happen now. This could be something permanent.
We were used to doing them (be/get used to + -ing verb)
To mean ´to be/ get accustomed to´.
