Max!
Hey everyone I’m Max! and this is Max. Today we are going to be discussing a topic all about what you think: Personal Essays!
M A X...
I’m sure what everyone is thinking right now is how embarrassed you just made them. They do enjoy edgier tones these days you know.
Max!
6th grade is still kind of like elementary!
M A X...
This is eighth Max. Can’t you count?
Max!
…. Sorry! Uhh…. So… I should try a tone that the students will like more right? Like a serious one?
M A X...
Yes. You must learn to be trendy sometimes.
Max!
Right.. *ahem* Alright everyone, so this is the topic of personal essays which focus primarily on what you think or find important in life. All about writing what’s on your mind! For example if I was writing if I think chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla, if Burger King is amazing, and…. How much I hate being serious, then all of that would count as a personal essay because it’s my personal thoughts and opinions.
M A X...
And I could make my own personal essay discussing why I think Burger King is disgusting.
Max!
Hey! …well… it IS a personal essay since it’s your thoughts… and it's not persuasive since you're not saying why i'm wrong. You're just saying your own opinion....dang it! I'll have you know that I can make my own personal essay about what I think about you, and let me tell you... these opinions? Are not gonna be nice, because of what you said of Burger King!
M A X...
*chuckle* Relax Max, correcting your mistakes is the fastest way you’ll get this right. Why don't we start discussing tone next? I know mine is completely edgy.
Max!
Hmm….ooh! I’ve got an idea! *ahem* The next topic is gonna be tone everyone! Expect some super-duper learning to happen here folks! It’s gonna be tight! Anyways guys, what did you feel from that?!
M A X...
Is it cringe? Because that's what i'm feeling.
Max!
No silly, h a p p i n n e s s. An upbeat and happy tone. And you were using a critical and disgusted tone, which... WAS pretty mean. You could have used a curious tone instead by just saying "Not sure." To answer my question!
M A X...
You're right,. I could have used a different tone such as "WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE THIS?!" as an angry tone, or "Why are you acting like this?" as a curious tone.
Max!
You can also say I’m tired of this class, can I go? The class was fun, but I’m a bit tired by now, Or FINISH THE CLASS ALREADY IM SICK OF THIS. Tone can change a bunch on how people think you feel about something. So naturally, when writing a personal essay about what you think (good, bad, curiosity, etc.) using tone will let readers see what kind of emotion you’re going for!
Max!
Indeed. Putting emotions in writing is good, but be careful not to go overboard.
Max!
So yeah! I imagine people will be thinking alot about this a lot when presenting their opinions. Will they try to be dramatic, excited, serious? Maybe something else entirely! I can’t wait to find out when they start writing abou-
M A X...
Shhh... No spoilers. They will know... quite soon.... hehehHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHaha...
