Are non-polar therefore are carried by lipoprotein complexes in the blood. Long hydrocarbon chains which are hydrophobic.

Is slightly non-polar but is able to dissolve in water. As temperature increases the solubility decreases. Thus not enough of the substance can be transported dissolved in blood plasma, so it is carried by haemoglobin as oxyhaemoglobin.

Is an ionic compound and therefore dissociated into ions, both of which will dissolve in water and therefore carried in blood plasma.

Has many OH (hydroxyl) groups, which are polar and so can form H-bonds with water. Thus, can easily dissolve in the water in blood plasma.

Are generally soluble in water due to the presence of both positive and negative charges. The nature of R-groups determine how soluble particular they are, eg non-polar R-groups will reduce solubility (this will be important when we look at proteins and enzymes). Thus, can easily dissolve in the water in blood plasma.

Is largely hydrophobic (has a small hydrophilic part) therefore they are transported in lipoproteins on the outside of the molecule.
