Usually shows a character’s entire face, or an entire object, from very close. The purpose is to draw attention to expression, or small details (like a crack in a vase). Connects the audience with a character’s emotions
Shows a character from head to hips. Shows more interaction with the character and environment. The purpose is to tell the audience how the character is interacting with the environment
Shows a character from head to knee The focus is mostly on the environment Shows the audience what the character is doing
Shows only a single feature (such as a nose/mouth/small part of a building) Draws the audience’s attention to a significant feature that they might otherwise miss Used to make the audience uncomfortable OR Used to help the audience relate to the character
Shows a character’s head and shoulders The purpose is to show a bit of interaction with the character and the environment focus is still mostly on the character
Character’s full body is shown The focus is almost entirely on the environment. The purpose is to show what is happening around the characters.
