Residential Education

One aspect of the larger HRE department. Roles within this area include Resident Advisors, Community Managers, Social Justice Advocates, Area Coordinators, Resident Directors and Graduate Assistants. This area of the department supports the in-community development of our residents.

An approach to applying the RLM to residential students that builds upon previous learning. In its purest form, it is a timeline for when different events and methods are presented throughout the year.

An all-encompassing term for any student who serves within HRE. Each varying role uses a different set of strategies to achieve different learning goals and the overall educational priority of the department.

One aspect of the larger Department of Housing and Residential Education (HRE). This area is comprised of Social Justice Advocates (SJAs), the Residence Hall Association (RHA), an Area Coordinator (AC) and Resident Directors (RDs). This area of the department supports the experiences of residents from marginalized identities, and hosts a majority of the large-scale events to build community within HRE.

It is used to get residents interested in a strategy, but does not generally advance the lessons or skills we hope to achieve in a learning goal.

Members of the campus community who serve as bridge between an LLC or TC, and the college or department associated with that community.

A stand-out experience in our resident’s lives that occurred through their participation in RLM.

The bread and butter of the RLM. This allows residents to forge meaningful connections with their peers, see success in their academic pursuits, an acceptance of their truest selves, and a sense of self-actualization. This means that residents are flourishing in an authentic community where they can learn, engage, grow, and laugh together, and our purpose within HRE is to strive to create such an environment.

Communities organized around a particular focus or area of interest. Unlike LLCs, they do not have an academic component associated with them.

The premier student organization in HRE and provides numerous opportunities to get involved. First year residents are highly encouraged to connect with in order to develop leadership skills and make a difference on campus. Many of the events and activities during opening weekend and throughout the year are hosted by this organization.
