Standardized testing Online version The issues regarding standardized testing by Lidia Villazaez Lily Hey, guys how do you feel about the History Exam coming up? Ben Man, I’m pretty annoyed about it. I understand everything we’ve been learning in class as a whole but I’m really horrible when it comes to remembering names and dates and you know that’s what a good portion of the test is growing to be. Eric It sounds like you just don’t know the subject very well. If you did then you wouldn’t have to worry so much. I hate when people say that the things we’re being tested on aren’t important. whats on the test helps you understand your countries history. Lily I don’t think he meant what we’re tested on isn’t important. I mean a lot of it really is. But maybe these ways of testing focus a little too much on having us memorize certain aspects of our history while marginalizing whole other chunks of it. Ben yea I think it’s unfair for you to say I don’t know the subject because I don’t know it in the same way the test wants me to. Ben I mean, I do great on the essay questions because I get to talk about the overall topic and get to use context to let the teacher know I still understand the question. But that’s just me. Different people excel at different things in many ways.
