About seventy ( 70% ) of the earth's surface is covered with . But 98% of this water is salt water and thus . Out of the 2% left , one percent is frozen in and the other 1% is threatened by . We can also obtain fresh water by the process of i . e . a process to convert salt water to fresh water whereby salt and are removed from the water . Unfortunately , desalination is an process using large amounts of energy , but research is currently being carried out into the development of more efficient technology using a combination of different methods .

Desalination has traditionally been carried out by the water ( the thermal method ) . The main disadvantage of this method has been the cost . Consequently , a cheaper and more flexible method has been developed , whereby water is purified by passing it through membranes . This method is used most effectively in combination with the thermal method .

The water is not a problem unique to dry countries . In countries with relatively high rainfall , water can still occur because of leakages and the subsequent loss of billions of litres of water . In addition , the average daily consumption of water has risen to as much as 150 litres per person in recent years , due to the increased use of modern technology in our homes . To overcome these problems , the public are to limit their of water .

Islam is a religion that encourages water . The religion teaches that water should be respected . One of the most famous verses pertaining to water is taken from the chapter of " the Prophets " and it states " We made from water every living thing " ( 21 : 30 ) . The Quran mentions that we should not waste our resources : " O Children of Adam ? Eat and drink : But waste not by excess , for God loveth not the wasters . " Furthermore , Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said " " Do not waste water even if performing ablution on the bank of a fast - flowing , large river . " The Islamic system says that whether water is available in plenty or in mere drops , conservation of water is to be the maxim all the time . Hence , this precious and scarce must be managed with respect and the highest degree of responsibility .
