Explanation

The Gobi Desert is a vast, arid desert in Asia that spans parts of Mongolia and China. Extreme temperatures occur here.

The Taklamakan Desert is a large desert in Outer China. Its name means "once you go in, you will not come out" in reference to its extreme sandstorms.

This river has its name for the yellow color caused by silt in the water.

Has a more moderate climate than many parts of China.

Mostly too dry and cold for crops. Used as a route during ancient times for invasions.

Mountain range including Mount Everest

Rocky land surrounded by mountains. Known as "the roof of the world". Extremely cold because it is so high up (average elevation of 16000 ft above sea level), snows year-round. Travel through this area was very difficult.

Areas of low, wet coastal plains. The basins are located along the river called the Chang Jiang ("Long") AKA Yangtze River.
