In 1932 , Democrat Franklin Delano was elected president of the United States ,
promising a " Deal " for those suffering from the hard times .

Roosevelt had a connection to Georgia because he came to swim in the waters at . After he became president , his home there came to be called the " Little White House . "

The three major goals of the New Deal were to : ( 1 ) bring to the millions of poor and
unemployed , ( 2 ) help the economy , and ( 3 ) put some permanent into place
designed to prevent future depressions .

The Corps put young men to work on projects to help America's , including planting trees , draining swampy land , and building parks .

The Rural Administration provided funds to rural cooperatives with which
