Explicación

En abril de 1519, Cortés desembarcó con un ejército de exploración en las costas de Veracruz.

Cortés y sus aliados de Cempoala marcharon hacia Tlaxcala en agosto de 1519.

Cortés afirmó que tomó la decisión como medida preventiva ante una posible emboscada de 20,000 soldados mexicas.

Los españoles eligieron Amecameca para descansar y proveerse de alimentos y otros objetos necesarios para continuar su viaje hasta México. A ese lugar se le llama Paso de Cortés, porque es por ahí por donde transitaron los viajeros extranjeros.

Cortés quedó impresionado por la ciudad. Cuando intentó describirla al emperador Carlos V, le dijo que necesitaría mucho tiempo y muchos relatores.
