Why? I got mine last year and it was pretty easy.

Yeah but you were in a better position than I am right now.
Avery
What do you mean? We are basically the same age and both have to go to driver's education and do the road test.
Marina
Yeah, we both have to do drivers education but I can barely afford it.
Avery
You can't ask your mom for money?
Marina
No, I wish. Since my parents divorce last year my mom has been really stingy with her money. Since drivers education costs $600 I've had to pick up so many shifts at Dunkin Donuts.
Avery
Ugh, that's so frustrating. What are you going to do?
Marina
I want to sign up for the accelerated course next month, but I don't even know where to start. Did your mom help you do it?
Avery
Yes, since my mom works from home and my dad owns his own construction company, she was able to help me figure it out.
Marina
That is so nice! I would ask one of my older siblings but they are all busy. I looked online but it wasn't translated in Spanish so it was hard for me to understand certain directions. I tried to call the drivers school today but nobody was answering the phone. It was so annoying.
Avery
What the heck! That is so annoying, if you want a ride down to the school I can take you tomorrow.

I know this is a big ask, but would I also be able to borrow your car once it comes time for my road test?
Avery
Um, I will have to ask my mom but I'm not sure if that is such a good idea. Is there another car you could use?
Marina
Sadly, no. My mom had to sell her car a few weeks ago so we have been relying on public transportation. I was thinking of asking my dad for his car but I don't feel comfortable speaking with him.
Avery
We can figure something else. Try not to worry about that right now because you need to go through school first and pass the test.
Marina
That's true, thank you for the optimism. I will just take it one day at a time. I guess my only immediate concern is not being able to understand the teacher at driving school. Sonia's driving school is the cheapest one that is closest to our house, but it seems like all the workers only speak english.
Avery
When we go to the school tomorrow to ask about enrolling in the accelerated course we can ask if the classes are offered by any spanish speakers. I'm sure they will have a work-around.

Yes, I will definitely ask tomorrow and see what they say. I really, really hope this all works out because I've been saving up for a car. I'd love to drive myself or my mom to work instead of constantly having to rely on the bus when half the time it doesn't even come when it's supposed to.

Yeah, I don't blame you! The buses always look so overcrowded and I hear they never run on time.
Marina
Yeah, it always gives me anxiety that I'm going to be late to work, I hate being late. Anyways, thank you for the advice Avery.
