Learn more about Oedipus Rex

by Ella Oloris
1

Oedipus, the king of Thebes, is faced with a plague devastating his city. He seeks to lift the curse by finding the murderer of the former king, Laius.

2

Oedipus is exiled from Thebes, leaving the city free from the plague. Creon, Jocasta's brother, takes over as king.

3

Jocasta, realizing the terrible truth, hangs herself. Oedipus, overcome with horror and guilt, blinds himself.

4

The truth is revealed through a series of discoveries: Jocasta, Oedipus's wife, reveals that Laius was killed at a crossroads. This revelation leads to the horrifying truth that Oedipus unknowingly killed his father and married his mother.

5

Oedipus consults the prophet Tiresias, who cryptically hints that Oedipus himself is the killer. Oedipus angrily rejects this, beginning his relentless pursuit of the truth, unaware of his own destiny.
