Often splitting up families and loved ones from one another 8 African rulers would sell or trade slaves to Europeans and Americans for weapons weapons. African leaders would attack other tribes or villages and take the people he attacked as slaves to be used in the transatlantic slave trade 9 The tobacco was used for cigarettes and smoking while the cotton was used for making clothing 10 Slaves were brought from South America however the Christian church declared that Christians may not be enslaved so Europeans started taking slaves from Africa
