1 Serving Size 2 Calories 3 Nutrient Values 4 Added Sugar 5 Essential Nutrients 6 %DV

Explanation

On the new Nutrition Facts Panel, serving sizes are larger to more closely represent portion size.

On the new panel, calories are larger so they are easier to find. Calories are per serving, not per package.

The percent daily value (%DV) is the amount of the nutrient in a serving of food as a percent of the daily need.

The new label now included specifics about added sugar; any sugar that is "added" to a food product.

Vitamin D, calcium, iron and potassium are singled out as four essential nutrients most adults are not getting enough of.

Notice that the definition of the %DV is included at the bottom and it is based on a 2,000-calorie diet. Some people need many more calories and some need a lot fewer calories.
