As a preposition of place, “on” is used for things which are on the surface of something else. Example: The book is on the table. 2 The preposition "behind" indicates location. We use “under” for something that is below something else or covering something else. Example: The ant is under the leaf. 4 Use “in” as a preposition to describe position.
