Figure 5 (below). The STOMACH is a muscular sac located between the ESOPHAGUS (a) and the small intestine. The region near its junction with the esophagus is called the CARDIA (b).Superior to this junction is a bulge or dome called the FUNDUS (c).The distal tapering region is the PYLORIS (d), with its PYLORIC SPHINCTER (asterisk). The bulk of the stomach is its BODY (f). The right and superior borders of the stomach form the LESSER CURVATURE (e).Its left and inferior borders form the GREATER CURVATURE (g).Internally, the stomach has longitudinal folds or pleats of mucosa (and submucosa) call RUGAE (h).
