Multiple exemplar training (MET) is when one stimulus is taught with many different examples, or introducing several different stimuli that fall under the same category or format (LaFrance & Tarbox, 2019). Jane That makes sense! Which stimulus has stimulus control over skills taught using MET, then? John Skills taught using MET are under stimulus control of several stimuli; specifically, the stimuli taught during instruction but also novel stimuli with similar features (LaFrance & Tarbox, 2019). This means if I show you pictures of a black lab puppy and a white lab puppy and tell you they are dogs, if you see a brown lab puppy later in the day, you'll likely also recognize that it's a dog! Jane What does MET teach? John MET is considered a teaching procedure that specifically teaches generalization! It can teach stimulus or response generalization (LaFrance & Tarbox, 2019)! Jane The job I'm applying for is in the field of special education. Will MET be useful to me if I get the job? John MET can be used to teach people with developmental disabilities a wide variety of skills, even empathy (Marzullo-Kerth et al., 2011)!
