Explicación

La mayor parte del volumen del átomo no contiene materia; entre el núcleo y los electrones hay muchísimo espacio vacío. Aunque los átomos tienen volumen, la materia es en gran medida “vacía”; por eso pueden penetrar partículas energéticas o comprimirse ligeramente en sólidos.

Región central diminuta formada por protones (+) y neutrones (0). Concentra casi toda la masa del átomo. Tiene carga positiva por los protones. Es muy pequeño comparado con el tamaño total del átomo.

Niveles o capas de energía donde se permite que estén los electrones en este modelo.

Partículas de carga negativa (–) y muy poca masa. Determinan las propiedades químicas, los enlaces y gran parte del comportamiento eléctrico.
