Sam So everything in that space shares the same network. How do these connections actually work? Alex They usually rely on Ethernet, the common technology for LANs, which uses cables to connect devices. Sam And what about an Ethernet switch? I hear that term a lot. Alex An Ethernet switch manages traffic. It forwards data packets only to the device that needs them, which keeps things efficient. Sam Interesting. So the switch helps avoid unnecessary data on every cable? Alex Exactly. It learns which device is on which port and sends data directly to that port. Sam Now, what about DNS? How does that fit into the LAN picture? Alex DNS translates human-friendly domain names into IP addresses that computers use to locate each other on the network. Sam So when I type a web address, DNS helps find the right IP so my device can connect?
