En les zones pròximes a l'equador hi ha més llum solar directa durant tot l'any i les temperatures són altes.

Els pols reben molt poca llum solar i mantenen temperatures baixes durant tot l'any.

Aquestes zones reben menys calor que l'equador, però més que els pols; per això tenen estacions moderades.
