Explicación

Tropas portuguesas cercam a cidade durante meses. Falharam em conquistá-la, mas enfraqueceram o controlo espanhol na região e obrigaram a reforçar toda a linha defensiva.

A fronteira funciona como rota de fuga de liberais e miguelistas. Povoados raianos tornam-se pontos de refúgio e trocas ilegais.

Durante a Reconquista e a posterior consolidação dos reinos ibéricos, a área de Valencia del Mombuey ganha importância como ponto de vigilância e transição entre Castela e Portugal. A proximidade ao río Ardila e ao caminho natural até Noudar faz da vila um espaço de passagem e observação militar.
