Jordan But the major culprits are burning fossil fuels, right? Alex Exactly. Coal, petroleum, and natural gas combustion emit CO2 and CO. Jordan Industrial kilns and vehicles also contribute significant amounts. Alex Forest fires and wood burning add to the emissions as well, especially when oxygen is limited. Jordan So CO tends to dominate in oxygen-poor conditions? Alex Yes, CO formation increases when combustion is incomplete due to limited oxygen. Jordan That helps explain why reducing fossil fuel use and improving combustion efficiency matters for air quality.
