Explicación

El arco apuntado es otro elemento que hace que las catedrales góticas sean más elevadas. Transfieren mejor que otros tipos de arco los empujes hacia los laterales, pudiendo abrir ventanas más anchas y altas.

Ayudan a transmitir la presión de la bóveda central a los contrafuertes laterales. Así las naves centrales pueden alcanzar mayor altura.

Permite alzar la altura de los edificios. Los arcos se cruzan en el centro de la bóveda aligerando el peso de la construcción.
