Endoplasmic reticulum Rough ER: synthesizes and transports proteins. Smooth ER: synthesizes lipids and detoxifies substances.

Nucleolus Produces ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and assembles ribosomes.

Vacuole Stores water, nutrients, and wastes. Maintains turgor pressure (keeps the cell firm).

Cell wall Provides support, protection, and maintains cell shape.

Chloroplast Site of photosynthesis — converts light energy into glucose.

Golgi apparatus Modifies, packages, and distributes proteins and lipids.

Nucleus Controls cell activities and stores genetic material (DNA).

Ribosomes Site of protein synthesis.

Cell membrane Controls movement of substances in and out of the cell.
