Explanation

This was one of the most important battles of the Mexican Revolution. Obregón used modern trench warfare and machine guns, defeating Villa’s División del Norte. It marked the beginning of Villa’s decline.

The Battle of León was another important clash between Obregón and Villa. Fighting was intense and lasted several days. During the battle, Obregón lost his right arm due to an explosion but continued leading his troops. The Constitutionalists eventually defeated Villa’s forces. This battle further weakened the Conventionist army and confirmed the growing strength of Carranza’s movement in central Mexico.

At Agua Prieta, Villa attempted to capture the strategically important border town. Constitutional forces led by Plutarco Elías Calles defended the city using fortified positions and modern weapons. Villa’s attack failed. The defeat was critical because it demonstrated that the Constitutionalists controlled the northern border and had stronger military organization.

The Second Battle of Nogales was another confrontation along the U.S.–Mexico border. Constitutional forces successfully resisted Villa’s troops. This victory secured northern territory and strengthened the position of the Constitutionalists. By late 1915, these repeated defeats made it clear that Villa’s Conventionist movement was losing influence, while supporters of Venustiano Carranza were consolidating national power.

This battle protected important oil-producing regions near the Gulf Coast. The Constitutionalists used defensive trenches and artillery to resist repeated attacks. After weeks of combat, Villa’s forces were forced to retreat. The victory strengthened Carranza’s control over strategic economic resources.
