Mysteries Around the WorldOnline version Identify the Mystery Sites on the Map by Efrain Gerardo Peña Cruz 1 The Great Pyramid of Giza - Built over 4,500 years ago, its precise alignment and the method used to move stones weighing up to 15 tons remain a subject of intense debate. 2 Stonehenge - This Neolithic monument features stones transported from over 200 miles away; theories suggest it was a celestial calendar or sacred burial ground. 3 Easter Island - Known for nearly 1,000 massive moai statues weighing 14 tons each, it remains unclear how ancient inhabitants moved them across the island without wheels. 4 The Nazca Lines - Massive geoglyphs etched into the desert floor over 2,000 years ago, ranging from animal shapes to geometric patterns, best viewed from the air. 5 Göbekli Tepe - Often called the "world’s first temple," this 11,000-year-old site features massive stone circles that were intentionally buried by its creators for unknown reasons. 6 The Plain of Jars - Thousands of massive stone jars are scattered across a plateau, possibly used for ancient burial rituals involving the removal of flesh from bones. 7 Bermuda Triangle - A 500,000-square-mile area infamous for the unexplained disappearances of dozens of planes and ships. 8 Hessdalen Valley - Famous for the "Hessdalen Lights," recurring balls of light of many colors that pulsate, move erratically, and can emit up to 19 kW of radiant power. 9 Blood Falls - A crimson-colored waterfall pouring from the Taylor Glacier, caused by iron-rich water that "rusts" upon contact with the air. 10 Lake Hillier - A lake with a shocking, persistent bubblegum-pink color likely caused by high salinity and specific algae. 11 Richat Structure - Known as the "Eye of the Sahara," this 30-mile-wide bull's-eye formation is so large it is used as a landmark by astronauts. 12 Eternal Flame Falls - A small flame burns behind a waterfall in New York, fueled by naturally occurring methane gas seeping through rock layers. 13 Crooked Forest - A grove of 400 pine trees that all grow with a uniform 90-degree bend at their base for unknown reasons. 14 Darvaza Gas Crater - Known as the "Door to Hell," this burning natural gas field collapsed into a cavern in 1971 and has been on fire ever since. 15 Jatinga - A village famous for the mysterious phenomenon where birds allegedly come to commit suicide. 16 Min-min - One of several global locations reported to have recurrent light phenomena similar to those found in Norway. 17 Hoia-Baciu Forest - Called the "Bermuda Triangle of Romania," it is famous for its twisted trees, UFO sightings, and a clearing where nothing ever grows. 18 Poveglia Island - A deserted island in Venice with a grim history as a plague quarantine site and a psychiatric hospital; it is rumored that 50% of its soil is human ash. 19 Mapimí Zone of Silence - A desert area where radio signals allegedly fail, accompanied by reports of strange lights and mutated wildlife. 20 Aokigahara Forest - Known as the "Suicide Forest," this dense woodland at the base of Mount Fuji is steeped in Japanese folklore and historical associations with death.
