We can see the pizza was divided into 8 equal pieces .and we have 5 pieces remaining hence it was only 3 pieces that were extracted

7/8 is the biggest among them all

The remaining piece was 6/8 which simplifies into 3/4 hence the consumed piece was 1/4

The remaining piece is 4/6 that is equivalent of 2/3 hence the consumed piece was 1/3

if you simplify 4/8 by dividing both numenator and denominator by 2 one gets 1/2
