What about the wall and muscles? I heard about constrictors.
Dr. Maya
The wall has mucosa, pharyngeobasilar fascia, a circular muscle layer of constrictors, then buccopharyngeal fascia. The three constrictors—superior, middle, and inferior—narrow the pharynx during swallowing.

And the gaps between them—do they matter clinically?
Dr. Maya
Yes. Four gaps transmit the auditory tube, glossopharyngeal nerve, internal laryngeal nerve, and the recurrent laryngeal nerve with arteries—critical during surgery.

What about the palatal region?
Dr. Maya
Palate forms the roof: soft palate and hard palate. The palatine and lingual tonsils are part of Waldeyer’s ring; the greater palatine and ascending palatine arteries supply the palate, with nerves from the palatine and maxillary branches ensuring sensation and function.
