Explanation

Many slaves were brought from Africa and some were from Madagascar. They had to obey their masters otherwise they would be severely punished.

Indentured labourers were brought from India to replace slaves in sugar plantations. They faced many difficulties during their voyage to Mauritius.

Colonial masters chose Mauritius because of its geographical location in the Indian Ocean. Some used it as a stopover and to replenish their food stock.
