Explicación

One of the resonators; its entrance is controlled by the velum. When the velum is lowered, air escapes through the nose to produce nasal sounds.

The most important resonator due to its mobility. Its size and shape are altered by the movement of the tongue and lips to create different speech sounds.

The bony prominence situated immediately behind the upper teeth. It is an important point of articulation for sounds like /t/, /d/, and /n/.

Active articulators situated at the front of the oral cavity. They can be moved to change the shape of the mouth opening.

Passive articulators located in the oral cavity. They provide a surface against which the tongue or lips may touch.

The movable, muscular part at the back of the palate. It acts as a valve to open or close the entrance to the nasal cavity.

The most movable active articulator. It is divided into sections—tip, blade, front, back, and root—to describe precise points of contact.

It acts as the primary conduct for the air required to create speech sounds.

It acts as a valve. It is raised during speech but lowered during swallowing to prevent food from entering the lungs. It has no actual function in the production of speech sounds.
