At first, she felt like an outsider, but she was brave and kept going. 4 In the story "Match" , the characters live in a world that is taken over by technology and everything is controlled for them. 5 In the story, Jack defends his foster brother because he knows it is the right thing to do, even though it gets him in a fight. 6 In the story "The Joy Luck Club," the main character wants to make her mother proud by winning at chess, but she is worried that if she doesn't do things perfectly, her mom will be ashamed. 7 In the fifth book, Harry Potter tries to warn people that Voldemort, the villain, is back but they do not believe him and make fun of him because they are scared. 8 In the book "Fault in Our Stars," Hazel Grace falls in love with August, but they are both sick and at risk of dying. One of them dies at the end and leaves the other missing them and sad. I can connect this to history because I learned about World War II and how people discriminated against the Jews. I can connect this idea to my own life because sometimes I am worried about disappointing my parents. Or, sometimes they want me to do something but I am interested in something else. When I first came to my new school, I felt like an outsider, too, but I had to be brave. I learned that what was different about me actually made me special. I can connect to Hazel in this story because I had a friend who was sick and died. When she passed away, I was very sad and missed her. It is hard to say goodbye to people we love. This idea connects to the world because we have more and more technology and it is hard to say when it is too much. Do we ever make things too complicated with technology? I can connect this to history. Sometimes a government or group of people will ignore a problem that they are scared of. I can connect to this because I play soccer, too! It is cool to see a character like something that I like to do. When I first started, I would get nervous too, but not anymore. I can connect to this idea because I am very loyal to my family and would do anything to keep them safe.
