It can be divided into three sub-stages. 2 It is considered a different stage to the cell cycle. The cells in this stage are not divided nor are they in preparation for division. 3 The cell increases its size and increases the number of organelles and other molecules 4 Duplication of DNA and associated proteins 5 The structures necessary for division begin to show; the chromosomes begin to condense. 6 Period of division by mitosis or meiosis
