Cardiac cyle

Video Quiz

(1)
The cardiac cycle is the performance of the human heart from the ending of one heartbeat to the beginning of the next. It consists of two periods: one during which the heart muscle relaxes and refills with blood, called diastole, following a period of robust contraction and pumping of blood, dubbed systole.

Explanation

The cardiac cycle comprises a complete relaxation and contraction of both the atria and ventricles, and lasts approximately 0.8 seconds.

The pulmonary vein enters into the left atrium of the heart. *** Remember that you can say atria is the plural name and atrium the singular one. A synonymous of atria is auricle.

Blood passes from the right atrium through the tricuspid valve and into the right ventricle. When the right ventricle contracts, the muscular force pushes blood through the pulmonary semilunar valve into the pulmonary artery which relaxes. On the other hand, when the left ventricle contracts, it forces the blood through the aortic semilunar valves and into the aorta.

The cardiac cycle integrates pressure, volume, and electrocardiographic and valve movements during systole and diastole. Atrial depolarization is followed by contraction (atrial systole), an increase in pressure in the atria (a wave), and a small increase in ventricular volume.

The" LUB" is the sound of the tricuspid and mitral valves closing (valves between atria and ventricles). The" DUB" is the sound of the aortic and pulmonary valves closing (between ventricles and the aorta and pulmonary veins, respectively). Together, they're the sound of someone's heart doing its job. The distinctive sound of the heartbeat-lub-dub, lub-dub, lub-dub comes from the closure of two pairs of heart valves.

Assuming a healthy heart and a typical rate of 70 to 75 beats per minute, each cardiac cycle, or heartbeat, takes about 0.8 seconds to complete the cycle.

Diastole and systole are two phases of the cardiac cycle. They occur as the heart beats, pumping blood through a system of blood vessels that carry blood to every part of the body. Systole occurs when the heart contracts to pump blood out, and diastole occurs when the heart relaxes after contraction.

Your pulse is usually called your heart rate, which is the number of times your heart beats each minute.
