When we plug an electric machine into a socket, the electric current flows from the plug into the machine along the wire.

When we rub a balloon on our hair electrons pass from our hair to the balloon and so, the balloon has more electrons and it becomes negatively charged. The hair has fewer electrons now and so, it becomes positively charged. As a consequence, as the balloon and the hair have now opposite electrical charges, they attract each other; that’s why our hair stands on end.
