Vectored into humans by bites of infected fleas, causes plague. Bubonic plague (mortality rate 50-75%), pneumonic plague (nearly always kills.) Probable cause of "Black death."

Resembles E. coli except it almost invariably produces a variety of enterotoxins.

Highly motile. Live in intestines of humans and other animals.
