•Según la definición que se recoge en la RAE, un estereotipo consiste en una imagen estructurada y aceptada por la mayoría de las personas como representativa de un determinado colectivo. Esta imagen se forma a partir de una concepción estática sobre las características generalizadas de los miembros de esa comunidad. 

 •Los estereotipos pueden ser de tipo sociales (de acuerdo a la clase social de la que procedan. Ej: chetos), culturales (de acuerdo a las costumbres que tengan. Ej: fascistas) o raciales (de acuerdo al grupo étnico del que formen parte. Ej: judíos). 

De todas formas, los estereotipos suelen formarse uniendo estas tres características, por lo que es muy difícil separarlos completamente unos de otros. Cabe señalar también que existen estereotipos vinculados a la religión, como aquel que define a los judíos como avaros.
