There was something huge and black in the water . It very still and was us . It didn't make any more sounds . We stood very still too , and waited for a long , long time .

Suddenly the moon came out from behind the cloud and we saw what it was . It wasn't an animal at all - it was a big at the side of the . No wonder it wasn't moving ! Jeff looked at me and then we both started to laugh . How !

But suddenly we heard the again - on our left . We stopped laughing and looked at each other - we didn't know what to do . We turned and saw a black bear which was stamding on the trail behind us . And it was staring directly at us .
Jeff was really . " What now ? " he . " Don't run ! " I said . " Start to shout and clap your hands . We have to make it go away . " Although I was really scared too , I added , " Remember , bears don't usually like people . " Jeff and I and clapped our hands like crazy , and we were watching the bear all the time . At last , the bear ran away . Soon we couldn't see it anymore - we were safe !

I grabbed Jeff's arm and we turned and went back along the . We were very careful and often looked back towards the trees , but the bear didn't come back . Soon we could see the again and Jeff stopped . He looked at me and said , " I don't want to have any more adventures like that ! That was . " " Yeah , it was a bit scary , wasn't ? " I said . " But hey - we saw a bear ! "
