Llamado también método del deletreo, aprendían primero por orden alfabético el nombre de las letras, mayúsculas y minúsculas, después deletreaban y pronunciaba combinaciones

Fue difundido en el siglo XVIII por Federico Gedike y Samiel Heinicke, las unidades claves de la enseñanza de la lectura son las sílabas, suelen enseñarse con ayuda de palabras y cuadros.

En la primera etapa del método se enseñaba la forma y el sonido de las letras, empezando por las vocales, después se enseñaban las consonantes según el orden establecido
