La licencia puede permitir el uso de la información ( programa , software , etc ) sin restringir la propiedad del sobre la misma , en tal caso se llamará licencia ; pero si la licencia se concede en tal manera en que el licenciante se compromete a no otorgar similares autorizaciones a favor de otros se demoninará licencia .

De igual manera si por el uso de cierta información en una licencia el licenciatario se obliga al pago de una suma como retribución o contraprestación se denominará licencia , de lo contrario será .

Puede ser que para el licenciatario el uso de la información que se autoriza con la licencia se encuentre restringido territorial o temporalmente , en tal caso se trata de una licencia ; pero si el licenciatario se encuentra plenamente facultado en la licencia para usar el objeto de la misma se denominará licencia .
