In the past , it was very common for teenagers to do student exchanges where they would go abroad and stay in each other's homes . The idea was not only to learn a new language but to with the local teenagers , even go to their school and get a the place and culture . Sometimes the was very welcoming and students got on well with the people in the home , but other times the was too much because they couldn't food and ended up being left to their . Maybe that's why these days it is more common for teenagers to go on a group trip abroad where everyone stays in a or hostel together . During the trip , students go and see and only briefly meet up with a group from a local school . This way teenagers don't a foreign house all day and there is no awkwardness . The worst that could happen might be a case of from a bad prawn and some sore feet from walking around the town .
