I suppose Hobbits need some description nowadays , since they have become and shy of the Big People , as they call us . They are ( or were ) a people , about half our height and smaller than the Dwarves . Hobbits have no beards . There is little or no about them , except the every day sort which helps them to disappear and quickly when large folk like you and me come along , making a noise like which they can hear a mile off . They are inclined to be in the stomach ; they dress in colours . . . wear no , because their feet grow natural soles and thick brown hair like the stuff on their heads ( which is ) ; have long brown fingers , good faces , and laugh deep laughs . . .
