Según Wegener , hace 300 millones de años , los continentes se encontraban unidos en un , al que denominó que se fragmentó y se inició la separación de los fragmentos continentales en un proceso de deriva que aún continúa .
Las principales pruebas que Wegener aportó para demostrar que los continentes están en continuo aún siguen siendo válidas y son de índole geográfica , geológica , paleontológica y paleoclimática .


PRUEBAS GEOGRÁFICAS
Wegener dedujo que los continentes habían estado unidos en épocas geológicas anteriores al comprobar la coincidencia de la de sus , como las de África y Sudamérica .

Wegener comprobó que , si se reunían todos los continentes en las posiciones que ocupaban cuando estaban juntos , existía una continuidad que se plasmaba en sus formaciones , en el de rocas y en la de estas .
