STUDENTS HELPING STUDENTS

" Why do I have to learn this ? " is a question frequently asked in the classroom . Usually , It is the teacher who provides the reason for ( learn ) something . However , recent research has shown that when a student gives the explanation for what a subject deserves ( to take ) seriously , fellow students actually achieve higher marks .
These findings seem ( indicate ) that teachers are good at communicating the course content , but our peers actually encourage us ( do ) better . This is because students identify with each other's ideas more than with an official explanation from a teacher .
Identification in the key . Students see themselves ( benefit ) from a course in the same way as their peers , so if one student values a course , it's highly likely he or she can succeed in ( make ) others see it as valuable too . This gives the material meaning and helps ( create ) a sense of common purpose in learning . This study shows that peers may be just as important as teachers in ( inspire ) us to learn .
