A thistle funnel and a delivery tube are held the of a flask by means of a bung . Manganese oxide powder is in the of the flask . Concentrated hydrochloric acid is poured the thistle funnel until the end of the
thistle - funnel is just the surface of the liquid .
The delivery tube passes a trough of brine ( salt and water ) . A gas - jar full of brine is on of a shelf , immediately the end of the delivery tube .
The flask is held a bunsen burner flame and the contents are heated . A reaction takes place in
the flask and a gas is produced . The gas passes the delivery tube , the jar of brine . Bubbles of gas rise brine and the level of brine in the gas - jar goes . The level of the brine until the jar is completely full of the gas .
