The period beginning immediately after the birth of a child and extending for six weeks"40 days" . It divided into immediate postpartum (first 24 hours), early postpartum (1st week), and late postpartum "from 2nd week till end of 6 weeks".

The changes occur to reproductive organs, especially the uterus, after childbirth to return to their nearly pre-pregnancy size and condition. It occur through two process "Autolysis and Ischemia"

Contraction and retraction of the uterine muscle fibers compresses the blood vessels and reduces the blood supply to the uterus.

It is the uterine discharge coming through the vagina during the first 3-4 weeks or the postpartum. It divided into 3 types rubra, serosa, alba. it is alkaline in reaction.
